The central bank has announced plans to deploy a mobile "banknote clinic" for flood-affected southern regions, offering residents the opportunity to inspect and exchange damaged banknotes. This initiative aims to assist those impacted by recent inundations, ensuring they have access to usable currency. Specific dates and locations for the clinics are yet to be revealed.

The Bank of Thailand (BoT) is proactively addressing the immediate cash needs arising from the floods by preparing a reserve of banknotes for the recovery phase. In collaboration with financial institutions, the BoT is accelerating banknote distribution to branches and ATMs to meet demand. Additionally, banks in the affected areas will provide daily exchange services for damaged notes throughout December, a service previously available only once a week.

Busakorn Teerapanyachai, assistant governor for Payment Systems Infrastructure and Operations, highlighted the resilience of the new polymer banknotes, which are designed to withstand dirt and moisture. She stated these notes can be cleaned and remain valid as legal tender. For severely damaged notes, exchanges can be made at the Government Savings Bank (GSB) or nearby commercial banks during business days this December.

Looking forward, the central bank's comprehensive response includes coordination with government and commercial banks to ensure seamless exchanges and accessibility for all residents in flood-affected regions. This initiative underscores the commitment to economic stability and support for those impacted by natural disasters, reported Thai PBS.
