A 57-year-old woman died after being struck by a car while running across Ekachai Road in Bangkok’s Bang Bon district on the morning of 2 December. Emergency responders attempted CPR on the victim, identified as Chutipa Ittisang, but she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards due to severe head injuries. The collision occurred beneath a pedestrian overpass near the entrance of Soi Ekachai 76, where the victim had dashed across the three-lane road from a bus stop.

Police from Bang Khun Thian Station, led by Pol Lt Yanathorn Suksusak, received the report at around 09:00 and attended the scene with forensic officers, Siriraj Hospital medic and Poh Teck Tung Foundation volunteers. Chutipa was found lying on her back in workout clothes, surrounded by blood, in the leftmost lane. Nearby, officers located a black Toyota Yaris with left-side windshield damage, driven by 60-year-old Nampoi Somrup.

Nampoi told police that he had been travelling in the rightmost lane when Chutipa suddenly ran across the road from the bus stop, leaving him no time to brake. He said the woman cut directly in front of his vehicle moments before impact. Police documented the damage to the car, which included a hole in the left section of the front windscreen.

Chutipa’s sister, Sumalee, said the victim suffered from high blood pressure and exercised every morning. She explained that her sister normally travelled by bus to Central Rama 2 to go jogging and would usually board the bus at Soi Ekachai 76. On this occasion, Chutipa unexpectedly ran across the road instead of using the pedestrian overpass nearby.

Residents told reporters that this stretch of Ekachai Road frequently sees pedestrians and factory workers crossing illegally rather than using the overpass. They said the area around the bus stop and village entrance is a recurring risk point. The latest incident has renewed concerns over pedestrian safety.

Thaitabloid reported that police transferred Chutipa’s body to Siriraj Hospital’s Department of Forensic Medicine for autopsy. Authorities will coordinate with the family to release the body for religious rites after the examination is completed. Officers are also reviewing statements and forensic findings as part of the routine investigation into road-traffic fatalities.

Could have easily been avoided.

I cross busy roads in the Capital daily. Look both ways. Wait until there's a suitable break in the traffic to cross safely, without having to run and possibly falling down.

If there are no breaks, wait for the inevitable stop at long red lights or traffic jams. Thread your way carefully between cars, sticking your head out between every lane to avoid being hit by a motorcycle.

I grew up in NYC, a veteran scofflaw jaywalks from an early age. Follow these rules. And don't run across highways, thinking you'll make it. You won't.

RIP, Chutip.

Very true...

... And also - when driving - ensure you have a dash-cam - as some events are simply unavoidable and we need to ensure we are protected.

... This is also another reason not to drink drive  (if one was needed in the first place) as a number of folk on here seem to do - If they have an accident thats not even their fault - they might still face blame if under the influence. So even if they think they are very careful drivers when they've had a few - events that are out of their control can still unfold.

RIP to the lady.
