A man who bludgeoned his girlfriend to death in her bedroom later hanged himself in a forested area on the outskirts of Udon Thani, bringing a days-long police search to an end. The body of 30-year-old Sarawut, known as “Kooka”, was discovered on 1 December 2025 after officers traced his movements through CCTV footage. His death followed the killing of 31-year-old Sirinan, who was found in the suspect’s home after relatives reported her missing.

Police received a report at 15:00 on 1 December that a man had been found hanged in scrubland near the ring road in Ban Lueam, Muang Udon Thani. CCTV from a house opposite the area showed Sarawut walking into the overgrown wooded strip at 18:47 on 26 November and never emerging. Officers from Muang Udon Thani Police Station, supported by forensic teams and regional investigators, searched the site and found his decomposed body hanging from a tamarind tree about 50 metres inside.

A black backpack was located beneath the body containing a mobile phone, photos of the couple and official documents. A preliminary examination found no signs of assault and indicated he had been dead for four to five days. His father and younger sister, who studies in Udon Thani, later identified the body but declined to speak to the media.

The investigation began after Sirinan disappeared on 26 November, when she left home in her pyjamas to pick up Sarawut in her car. Relatives last contacted her when she said she was in Ban Phue, Udon Thani, to borrow money, before losing all communication. Police were alerted and on 29 November relatives accompanied officers to search Sarawut’s house, where they discovered Sirinan dead in his bedroom with fatal head injuries consistent with being struck by a hammer.

Following the discovery of the crime scene, Region 4 investigators tracked Sarawut using CCTV along his escape route. They located Sirinan’s car abandoned by the ring road and later confirmed he had walked into an overgrown, abandoned restaurant area, where he apparently took his own life. Police believe he intended to evade prosecution for the killing.

Amarin reported that further forensic examinations will continue, and police will complete reports for both deaths in coordination with the families. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV along all known routes to verify the timeline of events.

Key Takeaways

• CCTV footage led police to the overgrown area where the suspect was found hanged.

• The victim was discovered in the suspect’s home three days after relatives reported her missing.
