Trump wants to recreate a white America that never existed

Featured Replies

The current administration’s attacks on immigrants are sloppy and driven by lies. It’s strikingly clear that the target is not individuals with criminal records. It’s anyone and everyone guilty of being brown. Native Americans with tribal identification cards, US citizens, people doing crucial work from construction to nursing, military veterans, college students, people sleeping in their own beds, small children: all kinds of residents of this country are under attack.

The US when white supremacists like Trump were young was whiter, but this was never a white country. In 1776, the 13 colonies that became the United States included a significant percentage of Black and Indigenous people (some southern states were a third or more Black). When the US annexed Texas in 1844 and then in 1848 took Mexico’s whole northern half, a Spanish-speaking population was already settled across parts of what’s now the south-west and California.

The persecution of huge numbers of brown people and even the mass deportations will not create the white country of far-right fantasy. Los Angeles, for example is an almost 50% Latino city, and despite the ICE and border patrol outrages, arrests, imprisonments and deportations, it remains so. The city’s very name is Spanish, a reminder of who was here first. All the hatred, all the persecution, seems like the panic of racists pretending they can stop the future of this country no longer being majority white through sheer cruelty.

Persons residing in the US without authorization are illegal.

Persons residing outside the US are simply aliens.

Foreigners don't have a right to immigrate.

Those currently in the US........with permission.........are still legal.

But no more permits will be granted for the time being.

So in your opinion, foreigners residing outside the US have no right to file an application for immigration?

How about if other countries would apply the same rules for visa applications of US people.

Are you aware that EVERY American is an immigrant?

You are not a US citizen, why do you care so much about immigration in my country?

Maybe because plans are being made to commit the criminal act of trespassing into the US.

You are bigly misinformed.

All foreigners outside the US (maybe with the exception of North Korea?) have the right to REQUEST to submit an application.  They do NOT have the right to have it approved, nor do they have the right to demand embassy officials accept the forms if immigration from that country has been paused.

Most other countries seem to follow the same general rule.

EVERY American is not an immigrant.  Only those that immigrate are considered immigrants.  My great grandparents emigrated, legally, from Czechoslovakia back when Maria Theresa was a star, yet I still check the box marked "Native American" when given the opportunity.

Trump issued a ban on immigration applications for ALL CITIZENS of 19 countries.

So, they are now ALL considered to be illegal even before they apply?

Well, yes. It's' the prerogative of the US if it will entertain immigration applications from country X.

They are free to. In fact, to some extent most countries do rank foreigners on the basis of "desirability". E.g., for long Western citizens entered visa-free into Thailand while Africans, Indians, and others (till recently I believe) needed added paperwork.

We're past that meta argument since the American Constitution became fait accompli 200+ years ago. Though I get your sentiment.

Every American is an immigrant, and on top of that, they tried to murder all the natives and stole their land

But they are still allowed to enter if their documents are in order, in contrary with what Trump does.

No individual should be deemed illegal. Every nation has a moral obligation to embrace the free movement of people, fostering a world where everyone can seek safety, opportunity, and a better life.  Diversity is our strength.

You are making this more emotionally charged than it is. I don't like Trump and I am not white, but all this ban is saying is that the countries are high risk plus we don't have the resources there to vet applicants, so none will be entertained. Fair enough.

I don' tink dat word mean what you tink it mean!

immigrant /ĭm′ĭ-grənt/      noun
  1. A person who leaves one country to settle permanently in another.
  2. An organism that establishes itself in an area where it previously did not exist.
  3. One who immigrates; one who comes to a country for the purpose of permanent residence; -- correlative of emigrant.

Persons who are born in a country to at least one parent legally in that country are known as.....................native born.

The US has a detrimental law, left over from slavery times, that under the current interpretation confers nationality on offspring of ILLEGAL persons on US soil.

Where exactly does that extra large font dispute my statement?

They are not illegal, simply unwanted.  None of them are currently in the US, and per new policy, will not be granted a visa.  If they later manage to arrive without a valid visa, THEN they are illegal.

Yeah, I may have a reason to hate Trump, simply because I have a conscience.

And in case you missed it, the link i posted is not about immigration, it is about banning them to visit.

That article has a yellow banner indicating "This article is more than 5 months old" so may be outdated.

The article is about a "travel ban," not an immigration ban.  The new immigration ban seems to have been placed on citizens of the initial travel ban.

For the new immigration ban, see here:

Same principle. The US is not NK. Once they are in you are not going to have a security detail following them around. High risk country, unable to vet, sorry pardner.

It's the way things are. If I had to choose between a condo in Bkk full of Swedes and one full of Africans, guess where I would rent? For a few thousand baht more even. And I like to think I am not racist. But I am pragmatic.

Nice.  Written my AI or plagiarized?

I'm 100% for legal immigration.  I'm 100% against illegal immigration.
If migrants enter the US legally, I don't care what color they are.
If migrants enter the US illegally, I don't care what color they are - they need to be deported.

Nothing I stated here is a bit different than the laws in this country where we I'm a long-stay expat who resides in Thailand legally. (I'm not convince you actually live here).
I don't hear you're diatribe about illegal non-Thais living in Thailand who need to be allowed to flaunt Thai Immigration laws and stay illegally?  Therefore - your rant about America illegal migrant is ridiculous - as ridiculous as your nonsense about a "white America."

Really, lay off the booze.  Nobody living here in Thailand as legal, long-stay expats cares.

I see that a specific type of psychological disorder akin to an obsessive disorder is out of control. Do seek a consultation with a therapist to deal with your significant manifestations and delusions.
