Paulius Krilavicius, 45, was spared jail after admitting to repeatedly groping a woman on a flight from New York to London Heathrow in January. The incident involved Krilavicius, from Lithuania, attempting to pull the victim onto his lap and running his hands up her leg. After the victim reported the harassment to the British Airways cabin crew, she was moved to a different seat for safety.

Upon landing, Krilavicius was arrested and later admitted to sexual assault at Isleworth Crown Court. He received a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and must complete 100 hours of unpaid work alongside attending 25 rehabilitation days. Krilavicius will also pay £500 compensation to the victim and keep police informed of his details for 10 years.

Judge Arwel Jones noted the seriousness of the offense, emphasizing the victim's vulnerability during the flight and the sustained nature of Krilavicius's actions. Prosecutor Ivan Clarke highlighted that the victim now experiences significant anxiety when using public transport. Defense attorney George Payne argued for a community-based punishment, aiming to help Krilavicius understand and address his behavior.

Key Takeaways

  • Krilavicius avoided jail with a suspended sentence and community service.
  • The victim continues to suffer anxiety from the incident.
  • Krilavicius's actions were deemed a serious breach of personal boundaries.
