A tragic accident occurred in central Lam Dong Province, Vietnam, when a rock fell from a vehicle and killed a Russian tourist traveling in a van on National Highway 28B. The incident happened on Monday as a 16-seat service van, carrying 11 Russian tourists, was traveling from Mui Ne to Da Lat through Dai Ninh Pass. The rock struck the upper-left corner of the van's windshield, causing severe head injuries to two tourists.

Driver Tran Cao Minh Tri quickly turned the van around to take the injured to Bac Binh Thuan Regional General Hospital. Unfortunately, a 57-year-old female tourist died en route, while a male tourist received first aid before being transferred to a larger hospital in Lam Dong for further treatment. Authorities have faced difficulties tracing the vehicle responsible as cameras in the area failed to capture useful footage, and the service van itself had no dash camera.

Investigators are collaborating with the unit managing the highway upgrade project, which provided a list of six vehicles operating in the area at the time. All drivers denied involvement, and despite inspections by local police, no vehicle traces were found as they had already left the scene. The incident occurred amid construction work, with many vehicles transporting materials in the area.

Experts pointed out that the rock, less than 20 cm in diameter, penetrated the windshield with deadly force, suggesting both vehicles involved were moving at high speed. This tragedy highlights the risks present in construction zones and the challenges in ensuring road safety. Immediate actions are being taken to identify the responsible vehicle, but progress is hampered by limited evidence.

Looking forward, authorities are expected to intensify their search and continue analyzing available data to pinpoint the vehicle. With cooperation from the highway project team and law enforcement, there is hope for a breakthrough in the investigation. The incident underscores the necessity for heightened safety measures on busy routes undergoing construction, reported VN Express.

Never sit in the front seat of transport vans is my motto.

We never know the future, sorry for the poor lady.

Terrible way to leave this world.

Great cautionary tale for why I always drive with a good high-res dash cam.

Condolences to the victims and their loved ones.
