Thailand's Foreign Minister, Sihasak, stated that Prime Minister Anutin will prioritize Thai interests during a scheduled call with former US President Donald Trump. The discussion will revolve around the escalating tensions at the Thai-Cambodian border. Sihasak emphasized that Anutin will reject any ceasefire agreements that impose external pressures on Thailand.

Reports indicate Trump's call is motivated by Washington's desire for a ceasefire in the region. However, Sihasak clarified that any moves toward halting hostilities must involve discussions with the Thai military, contingent on ground realities. "This is something that both militaries must talk about," Sihasak remarked, highlighting the importance of mutual political will.

Before the call, Anutin will consult with Thailand's armed forces to solidify the country's stance. Sihasak reiterated that Thailand's actions are defensive against Cambodian provocations and that Bangkok seeks peaceful coexistence. The Foreign Minister stressed that proposals from the US will be evaluated on Thai national interests.

Sihasak firmly stated that any ceasefire must depend on Thailand's readiness and that threats from Cambodia must cease, either through conflict resolution or negotiations. He maintained that the military should continue operations as necessary until conditions change.

Addressing concerns about Thai military casualties, Sihasak confirmed no agreements have been concluded, emphasizing that future decisions will be jointly made by the government and armed forces. He noted there is no current necessity for formal agreements with the US or Cambodia, reported The Nation.

Key Takeaways

  • Anutin to focus on Thai interests in call with Trump.
  • Ceasefire depends on military readiness and external conditions.
  • Thailand asserts actions are defensive against Cambodian provocations.

Former? Did something happened that we were not made aware of or is it just a mistake by the writer?

That's a Freudian slip on the part of the AI trainers.  They're as fair and balanced as Wikipedia nowadays.

I was thinking more along the lines of "wishful thinking".
