The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued flood warnings for Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat. Residents in low-lying areas and along waterways are urged to prepare for canal overflows, mudslides, and heavy rainfall expected to breach canal banks, impacting communities such as Chaiya Montri and Mamuang Song Ton. Authorities advise residents to move valuables to higher ground and remain vigilant for potential electric shocks.

The DDPM's alert follows continued heavy rainfall in the region, with lingering rain cells exacerbating the situation. Working with mobile operators AIS, True, and NT, DDPM disseminated warnings via Cell Broadcast to ensure prompt public awareness. This proactive approach aims to mitigate damage and safeguard vulnerable populations in affected districts.

Experts caution that heavy rain and canal overflows could result in significant property damage and displacement. With three southern provinces still experiencing flooding, DDPM director-general Teerapat Kachamat reported that Surat Thani, Trang, and Songkhla are affected, with ongoing relief efforts underway. Authorities are closely monitoring weather patterns to anticipate further developments.

As the DDPM coordinates relief and recovery, residents can expect continued updates and advisories. Additionally, the department encourages the public to report emergencies via the “DDPM 1784” Line account or the 1784 safety hotline, which operates round-the-clock.

Key Takeaways

  • Flood warnings issued for Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani.
  • DDPM uses Cell Broadcast to alert residents of imminent risks.
