Cambodia’s Senate President Hun Sen has denied allegations of human rights violations after Thai nationals claimed they were barred from returning home through land border crossings. He insisted the restrictions were purely for safety, not intended to prevent travel. Tensions have risen since December 11 when Thai nationals reported issues at the Cambodian border near Si Sa Ket province.

Reports indicated that Cambodian border officials did not clarify the reasons for refusal, leading to allegations that 12,500 baht per person was demanded to cross the border. The Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh has formally requested assistance from Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior. However, no official response has come from Cambodian authorities.

The Royal Thai Armed Forces criticised the alleged actions, warning they could violate human rights and international laws. Royal Thai Army spokesperson Winthai Suvaree highlighted that such actions may contravene the Geneva Convention and additional protocols meant to protect civilians during conflicts.

Hun Sen refuted claims of intentional obstruction, clarifying that land border closings were for safety amid increased tensions. He stressed that air travel remains unaffected, and he encouraged Thai nationals to use available flights. In addition, those near the Cambodia–Vietnam border were advised to cross into Vietnam first before heading back to Thailand.

Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has prepared contingency plans to assist stranded Thai citizens. Deputy spokesperson Maratee Nalita Andamo confirmed aircraft with a 1,000-seat capacity per day have been arranged at Siem Reap for their return, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • Hun Sen denies intentionally blocking Thai nationals at borders.
  • Allegations surfaced of a 12,500 baht per person fee for border crossing.
  • Thailand has set up air travel options to bring citizens home safely.

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"Relax," said the night man
"We are programmed to receive
You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave"

Hun Sen is a complete madman and it seems like he's completely lost all contact with reality, and has descended into a state of pure madness.

I heard from a source of mine who works for the air force that Thais are being held against their will in Cambodia, and they're not being allowed to leave, looks like they're being used as a bargaining chip perhaps. Or hostages?
