Should I help my wife apply for Aussie P.R?

Featured Replies

We've been married for 11 yrs and have a lovely daughter. Relationship up and down but thats marriage. She's helping me get Citizenship here. Should I help her get P.R in oz even if we will never live there or move there in the future?

She's had 2 visas 'Visitor subclass 600' being married to me. 3 yr duration each one and this second one just expired. We go back to see my old folks sometimes.

Cant decide to apply for another subclass 600 or go for a  'subclass 309/100'  From what AI is telling me its expensive, time consuming and LOTS of docs. The expectation is that we will live in oz in the future.  I dont ever want to move back to the nanny state actually. We have a very successful small business here. There's no way we would ever give that up and move back.

Do you think its best to just continue with the 3 yr subclass 600?

thanks

Yes, it's an expensive and time consuming process.

Why would you want to apply for PR for her when you don't intend to live there?

Doesn't make any sense to me.

So that I dont have to keep applying for visas every 3 yrs for the next 30 yrs.  I suppose I have to think how many times do I think I will return to oz for holidays after my parents pass on.

Visitor visas are easy enough.

Especially when you've had several.

Permanent residency is not forever.

It's usually for 5 years.

Unless you intend to live there and she can apply for Citizenship, visitor visas is a much easier route IMO.

Under a recent deal between Australia and ASEAN, Thais are able to apply for a multiple entry visa of up to 10 years.  I don't know what criteria they look at when deciding on the validity period though.

Thanks for that. I had heard that a 10 year visa was possible but never found the details.

As the post above says, permanent residency would allow your wife to leave and re-enter Australia for 5 years, and then remain there indefinitely if she never leaves again.  If she does want to temporarily leave, she must apply for a Resident Return Visa, allowing her to reset the 5 year process upon her return. Much like a re-entry permit here, if you leave without one you lose your residency status.

If she is outside Australia when the 5 years is up then she also loses her residency. She'd have to travel there and apply for one of these before returning to Thailand. Unless you're planning on a permanent stay there, the multiple entry visa route would be my choice.

It gives your daughter another option to living in Thailand. Expensive, time consuming etc but it would be a great benefit to your daughter.

He doesn't need to apply for PR assuming the daughter is his and not step daughter.

He can get her Citizenship easily enough if that's the case.

Thanks for the info. Now I know that we should just continue with the subclass 3 yr one. Shows me that I cannot 100% rely on A.I for accurate answer/ information

What would be the benefit of doing so, other than Medicare for a serious injury or illness, if you have no insurance here?
