I’ve seen a lot of these beautiful birds over the years of living here, but I’ve never managed to get any decent pictures, although I’ve tried many times.

They’re very shy, but they are such beautiful birds. They have an enormous wingspan, and the way they just glide overhead is incredible. But I don’t know exactly what kind they are. Are they purple herons? They don't look purple though 😁

Do you know what sort they are?

Back home, I came home to find they had eaten and killed the rest of my Koi from my garden pond. So I have no time for them...😠

I’d probably hold a grudge too if they’d turned my koi pond into an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Did you restock your pond, after their banquet?

😂👍🙂🙂

No, couldn't be bothered....😒

There was a horse field a few hundred yards down the road, where Heron's would hang out, I was a bit slow putting the net over the pond and paid the price.

The annoying bit was, they had hooked all the fish out onto the decking, ate what they wanted and left the rest to die, carnage...🙁

@Bacon1 They are Asian Openbill - Anastomus oscitans, and Storks actually.

I managed to get a bunch of snaps of them, as they frequent local pond, park, and use to seeing dog & myself, so not too skittish.   Using the car is a great blind, and you might get better snaps if you can get closer.

They profile for me quite a bit ...
