In just three days, Hanoi's AI-powered camera system logged nearly 400 traffic violations, marking a substantial increase compared to traditional patrols. Deployed by the Hanoi Traffic Control Center on December 13, the system utilizes over 1,800 AI cameras spread across 195 intersections, 25 major roads, and key bridges. These cameras detected 393 offenses from December 13 to 16, showing the effectiveness of AI surveillance in comparison to manual monitoring.

The primary cause of detected violations was running red lights, with 352 incidents recorded. Other offenses included vehicles ignoring road markings, driving the wrong way on one-way streets, stopping in prohibited areas, and illegal passenger activities. The network identified 125 car-related violations and 268 involving motorbikes, demonstrating a comprehensive monitoring capability over a range of traffic misconduct.

Early reports from the Hanoi Traffic Police Department indicate stable and effective operation of the AI system. The high-resolution footage captures vital details such as license plates and timestamps to support accurate fine issuance. This data is stored on a centralized server for 75 days to ensure comprehensive record-keeping and objectivity in law enforcement.

Beyond traffic management, the AI cameras have aided public safety initiatives. On December 15, footage helped locate a missing 78-year-old man in Thanh Xuan Ward. By analyzing his movements, police and the community collaborated successfully to find him early the next day, highlighting the system’s utility in broader safety applications, reported VN Express.

Key Takeaways

  • Hanoi's AI traffic cameras outperformed traditional patrols in violation detection.
  • The system enhances both traffic law enforcement and public safety efforts.
  • Detailed recording aids in accurate, objective violation assessment.

Not bad  but the AI cams can do that in less than 1 day for about 200 intersections if not  more here in Los.
