A violent confrontation involving secondary school students left two teenagers injured by gunfire in Surat Thani province on 22 December, prompting a police manhunt for the suspected shooters. The victims, a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old young woman, were shot in the lower leg and foot during an encounter outside Wat Tritharam in Phunphin district and were taken to Phunphin Hospital for treatment. Police confirmed that the suspects, both aged 15, fled the scene on a motorcycle with several accomplices.

According to police at Phunphin Police Station, the shooting occurred at about 4.09pm after officers received reports of gunshot victims near a residence opposite Wat Tritharam school in Leeled sub-district. Rescue workers from Kusol Satta Bang Por Foundation provided first aid before transporting the injured teenagers to hospital. The area was secured as investigators began gathering evidence and witness statements.

Initial inquiries identified the injured boy as Mr Phu, aged 17 and the injured young woman as Ms Sa, aged 18. Both sustained gunshot wounds to the shin and right foot. Police stated that all individuals involved, including the suspects, were students at the same school.

Background investigations revealed that tensions had escalated earlier in the day following a dispute between one of the suspects, identified only as Mr K and a younger sister of a friend within the group. A 17-year-old friend, Mr Por, told police he had arranged a meeting to resolve the disagreement, but discussions failed and the suspect left the area with friends, leading him to believe they were going to retrieve a firearm.

Mr Por reported that he and the group later followed the suspects on motorcycles. They encountered the suspects again shortly afterwards, at which point one of the suspects allegedly produced a gun and fired several shots. The group attempted to flee before stopping to seek help at a nearby house where emergency services were contacted.

Matichon reported that police confirmed that the suspects, Mr K and Mr Kh, both aged 15, escaped with four to five companions. Officers are continuing efforts to track them down and have pledged to pursue legal action once arrests are made. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities focusing on the firearm used and the circumstances leading to the confrontation.
