US military strikes ISIS terrorist scum in Nigeria over Christian persecutions

President Donald Trump said Thursday he ordered a deadly strike on Islamic State militants in northwest Nigeria, accusing the group of persecuting Christians. In a post on social media, Trump said he directed a “powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria,” claiming the militants had been killing innocent Christians.

US Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed it conducted the strikes in Sokoto state, which borders Niger, saying they were carried out “in coordination with Nigerian authorities.” Its initial assessment was that multiple ISIS fighters were killed in the group’s camps. Daniel Bwala, special adviser to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, told CNN the two countries are “on the same page in the fight against terrorism.”

Trump said he had previously warned the militants “there would be hell to pay” if the killing of Christians continued. He praised the US military, saying the “Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes,” and added: “May God bless our Military, and merry Christmas to all, including the dead Terrorists.”

Trump has repeatedly highlighted the plight of Christians in Nigeria in recent months, warning the US could intervene to protect them. In a Christmas message, Tinubu wished Christians peace and pledged to protect Nigerians of all faiths.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, has faced years of violent attacks driven by extremist groups, communal conflict and disputes over land and resources. Analysts note that both Christians and Muslims have been victims of Islamist violence.

In a statement shared with CNN, Nigeria’s Foreign Ministry confirmed cooperation with the US on air strikes against “terrorist targets” and said the government remains committed to protecting the rights of all citizens “irrespective of faith or ethnicity.” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also thanked the Nigerian government for its cooperation.

AFRICOM earlier said the attack was conducted at Nigeria’s request, though that post was later deleted. CNN has asked the White House and AFRICOM for further comment.

As you can see - it has nothing to do with Christians at all.  But like Venezuela, Nigeria sits on top of a whole lot of oil.  And by the way, when Trump begins to bomb Venezuela, he'll be slaughtering Christians.

Bottom line?  In my best James James Carville impression, "It's The Oil, Stupid."

Nigerians are not slaughtering Christians. Islamic militants are murdering christians. They are also kidnapping children. This has been documented. It is why there is a pan African military force trying to stop it.

Israelis are not slaughtering Palestinian Christians.  Why lie? It is a legitimate question. Why would you be so malicious to intentionally lie like this? There are less than 50,000 Christians in the Palestinian Administration zone.  No Christians are dying because of a slaughter. There are 100,000 + Arab Christians in Israel. The community  has prospered and its population is stable. There has been no slaughter. There were an estimated few hundred Christians in Gaza. There has been no slaughter since the majority of these people are  elderly and are non combatants, and have not attacked Israel.

Other than you, who is saying they are being slaughtered? What is the basis for your claim, or are you just engaging in blood libel because  this website attracts people who enjoy such awful claims?

Something doesn't add up. Why would Trump risk the lives of Americans in the region for a country he has never visited and that is not even an important ally of the USA?

Because there has been significant pressure from Christian groups in the USA and Europe to save the Nigerian Christian community. The USA intervened decades ago to save Bosnian muslims from a similar fate.

Of course it is.

Greenland, Canada, Venezuela, Nigeria, they all have 1 thing in common: natural resources.

Lot of similarities to the problems America encountered in prosecuting the Vietnam war. I thought the lesson that airpower against a guerrilla type insurgency is largely ineffective had been learned in Vietnam. Nigeria's borders with neighboring countries make it very easy for insurgent/terrorist groups to strike and then retreat to other countries. Virtually all of the neighboring countries which make up the Sahel region (Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad) are battling insurgent/terrorist groups. Additionally, there is a great deal of political instability in this region. France's military support has been rejected by many countries in this region, and Russia's influence (Africa Corps, formerly Wagner Group) has been increasing.

In short, Trump may be playing with fire, as perceptions that local governments are allowing the US to turn their country into a geopolitical battlefield may only serve to destabilize the government further, and actually fuel support of radical insurgent/terrorist group activity in the region.

I've scoured the internet this morning looking for damage assessment photos, and this is all I've been able to find. Despite initial claims that many terrorists were killed, I have read a report that the villagers in the region have scoured the area and have found no casualties, whether civilian or terrorist. There appears to be countrywide confusion as to why this area, which is not known for terrorist activity, was selected, and there are rising calls for the Nigerian government, which reportedly provided the intelligence to the US military, to explain how these targets were selected.

“Judging by the nature of the confirmed strike on a village in Sokoto, it is clear that the US President under whose authority this operation occurred neither understands nor genuinely cares about Nigeria or Nigerians,” Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate and leader of the African Action Congress, said in a statement on X.

Just look at the barrenness of the landscape, and you tell me how cost effective a Tomahawk missile strike is likely to be. If the Nigerian government knew terrorists were camped out in the middle of the desert, why wouldn't they just send a battalion of troops in and eliminate them on the ground? Something's not adding up.

Gecko - well written and IMO spot on throughout. Thanks for that and the pics. The area is remote and just 100km south of the Sahara. So hot the Company Cessna had to wait for takeoff until early evening . . . .

These attacks make no sense. Trump madness again !

Trump quote in the Guardian - “And I said, ‘nope, let’s give a Christmas present.’ They didn’t think that was coming, but we hit them hard. Every camp got decimated.” MMMmmmmm

Just what is Trump's angle in this ?

Sudan next ?

Not just trump voters. That's the thinking in all populist movements. Unfortunately there's no simple solution to complex issues.

Why Fulani Muslims Are Attacking Christians

While Boko Haram and the Islamic State—West Africa are driven by their radical Islamic ideology to persecute Christians in Nigeria, many Fulani Muslims are in conflict with Christians over issues of farming and ranching.

“Although there are some militarized radical Fulani Muslims who are ideological in their beliefs and in their actions, I would say many of the Fulani Muslims are in conflict with the Christians … [because of a] lack of good grazing ground for their cattle,” he said.

Boko Haram and the Islamic State are terrorist groups, both of which have a strong presence in Nigeria, but the Fulani Muslims are an ethnic group in Northern Nigeria and are responsible for a great deal of the current violence being carried out against Christians.

“They raise cattle,” Brandon said of the Nigerian Fulani Muslims. “The Christians do farming [and] especially during the dry season, you’ll see an increase in the violence. When the cattle are looking for food, they’ll wander onto a farmer’s crops [and] destroy the crops. The farmer comes out, chases the cattle away, the Fulani come back and retaliate, and before you know it, hundreds of Christians are killed.”

Stopping the Fulani Violence

While the socio-economic issues do not justify the violence from the Fulani Muslims “it gives us an insight into how we can solve the problem,” the Christian missionary said.

“We’re helping those communities with wells, with medical care, with schools, because we want to increase their socio-economic position so that their young people aren’t drawn into radical ideologies and terrorism,” he explained.

To date, Across Nigeria has built eight schools serving over 4,000 students primarily in Fulani Muslims communities. Violence has dropped by 60% to 70% in every area where a school has been built, Brandon said.

One of the solutions to the tensions in Nigeria between Christians and Fulani Muslim is a ranching system that would include fences for cattle, which Brandon says is not a perfect plan, but does have “some good points to it.”

Attacks in Nigeria are ecumenical, to say it's only Christians being targeted is incorrect, and tomahawking the crap out of some mud huts doesn't strike me as particularly cost effective, rather it's simply pandering to local US political expectations.

No risk to Americans.

No, there was no risk to any U.S. pilots in the December 25, 2025, airstrikes on ISIS targets in Nigeria. The operation used MQ-9 Reaper drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) to launch 16 GPS-guided precision munitions. These Reapers are remotely piloted from secure bases (likely maritime platforms in the Gulf of Guinea or distant U.S./allied facilities)—no humans onboard, no pilots in the airspace over Nigeria.

Trump framed the attacks as a response to ISIS terrorism, particularly emphasizing the group's targeting of Christians in Nigeria.
