A man is in a coma after being stabbed multiple times at a fresh market in Pattaya, prompting police to arrest the suspect at the scene. The attack caused panic among shoppers and traders, and the victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

The incident occurred at about 2.30pm on 26 December at a fresh market on Soi Chaiyapruek 2. Police and rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation in Pattaya responded after reports that a man had been seriously injured in a stabbing.

At the scene, officers found Mr Prinya, 30, unconscious with severe injuries. He had suffered one stab wound to the lip, three wounds to the right side of his body and one to the left side of his chest, with a knife found nearby. Rescue workers provided first aid before transferring him urgently to Pattaya City Hospital, where he was reported to be in a coma.

The suspect, identified as Mr Surakan, 24, was detained by local residents before police arrived. He appeared distraught and told officers he had acted out of jealousy after believing the injured man was secretly involved with his ex girlfriend. He said he had always suspected her of infidelity and followed her to the market where she worked selling goods.

According to Mr Surakan, he was devastated to see his former girlfriend with another man and used a knife he had been carrying to attack the victim. He admitted responsibility for the incident and expressed remorse for what had happened. Police took him into custody for questioning at Nong Prue Police Station.

The woman at the centre of the dispute, aged 25, told police she had previously been in a relationship with Mr Surakan for six months but had broken up with him recently. She said they had gone their separate ways and she had only begun talking to the injured man about a week earlier. She also stated that her former partner had continued to harass her and had previously tried to start a physical confrontation.

Khoasod reported that police said the suspect would be formally charged and prosecuted in accordance with the law. Investigators are continuing to question witnesses and gather evidence while monitoring the victim’s condition at hospital. Further legal proceedings will follow once the investigation is complete.
