Change Phone number

Featured Replies

I used to get bombarded with spam, but now that I changed my phone number, it stopped completely. Why is that/? Don't get me wrong, I hated spam, but now I have none. What is the reason?

Your previous number probably made it onto some spammers' list and was shopped around. Once you're on such a list, it is almost impossible to get off it. For years I hardly had any spam, but then I picked up a call I was expecting from Sydney... it turned out instead to be some Chinese visa spam. From then on, for a year I kept getting regular calls from Sydney numbers that were more of the same. I wouldn't answer them, but still sometimes they would leave messages in Chinese on my voicemail,

After an Android update, my Pixel phone had a screening system so that any suspicious calls had to leave a message first for me to review and decide if I wanted to call them back. That cut out most of the spam.

The best way to avoid being spammed is not to answer calls from unknown numbers. If the call is important, they will leave a voicemail for you.

Can you describe the spam?

It may come back, if you do the same with the new number as you did with the old number.

Well, they got your number before. What makes you think they can not get your new number, if your internet / phone behavior is the same?

I'm sure the cheddar is stiffer than you are. 🙂

Nothing I have done AFAIK, But calls to my number which are not in my home list, are always preceded by, 'This may be a scam call'. It helps make me aware of possible dodgy callers. A few weeks ago the Lazada delivery guy's number came up as a scam call. Just as well I recognised the number, or the parcel may not have been delivered.

The reason: The new phone number is likely too new, the scammers don't know it yet...whistling

Changing your phone number is not a good idea. It causes problems.

I bought a new phone

You could get spam or adverts when you provide your phone to a biz. I get about 3 or 4 spam messages every week or so - almost all the spam I get is from True Move. Occasionally, I get a spam call from numbers with a Turkish or some country like those ending in -istan.

If I don't recognize the number or I don't already have it in my contacts, I don't answer and reject the call. Then put a block on it.

A new phone with the old sim card in it doesn't make any difference.
