December 30, 2025Dec 30 Popular Post Dentists warn marijuana use boosts cavity and oral cancer risks Dentists are warning that regular marijuana use may significantly harm oral health — increasing the risk of cavities, tooth loss and possibly mouth cancers. University at Buffalo dental professor Ellyce Clonan says she can often tell when anxious patients arrive “stoned,” and worries many users do not realise the potential dental risks. Research is beginning to quantify that danger. Studies have linked marijuana use to a 55% greater risk of cavities, a 41% higher risk of tooth loss, and a threefold increase in lip and tongue cancers among people with cannabis use disorder, according to recent California hospital-record data. Study author Raphael Cuomo of the University of California, San Diego, said findings suggest cannabis exposure itself may influence cancer risk, potentially through tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) suppressing immune responses in mouth tissues. Smoke exposure may also play a role. Marijuana smoke has been found to contain volatile compounds similar to tobacco — including ammonia at twenty times higher levels than tobacco smoke — as well as hydrogen cyanide and aromatic amines, which are known or suspected toxins. While researchers stress that more evidence is needed to conclusively link marijuana smoke to oral cancers, they note that inhaling any burning material can damage the mouth and lungs. Clonan’s own January research found marijuana users face higher rates of cavities and tooth loss — potentially compounded by dry mouth, which reduces protective saliva. She says more study is still needed into the impact of non-smoked cannabis products such as edibles. As legalization expands and social stigma declines, dental experts say awareness of oral-health risks remains low — even among frequent users who assume marijuana is benign compared with tobacco. December 30, 2025Dec 30 Link to the above study: https://jada.ada.org/article/S0002-8177(24)00589-0/abstract Results Compared with non–FRC users, people reporting FRC use had 17% higher probabilities of having untreated coronal caries (95% CI, 1.02 to 1.35), 55% higher odds of having untreated root surface caries (95% CI, 1.21 to 1.99), and 41% higher odds of having severe tooth loss (95% CI, 1.00 to 1.99) after controlling for age, sex, race or ethnicity, nativity, education, family income to poverty ratio, and alcohol consumption. Conclusions This study suggests that FRC use is associated with increased coronal caries, root surface caries, and severe tooth loss in the US adult population. Further longitudinal studies are warranted to assess the impact of varying frequencies, quantities, and forms of cannabis use.

Absolutely nothing of this is directly related to cannabis use -- when taken as an edible.
December 31, 2025Dec 31 Okay, I'll bite. How many reefers a day do you have to smoke to get these amazing results?
December 31, 2025Dec 31 Correct. However 99% of that causation is due to the munchies, and the inherent number of sweets that one consumes after getting stoned.

December 31, 2025Dec 31 An anti-dope propaganda hit piece. Why don't they compare this with the oral health damage from smoking cigarettes. There is a problem though in that people do mix tobacco with dope. Philistines.
