A fire broke out at a four-storey shophouse selling mattresses and furniture in Bangkok’s Sai Mai district, injuring three people who jumped from the second floor to escape the blaze. The incident was reported at around 12:10 a.m. on Dec. 30, prompting an emergency response from firefighters and police. A man and two women suffered leg injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

The shophouse was used as a retail premises for mattresses and furniture, items that can contribute to the rapid spread of flames once ignited. According to police, the fire started in the covered area at the front of the building before spreading to the structure itself. Fire crews were able to bring the situation under control within about 40 minutes of the report.

The affected area of the property was estimated at around 60 square metres, indicating partial but significant damage to the premises. While the fire did not spread to neighbouring buildings, the intensity forced occupants to make split-second decisions to escape. The injured individuals reportedly jumped from the second floor to avoid being trapped by smoke and flames.

Emergency services responded swiftly to contain the blaze and assist those injured, preventing further casualties. Police secured the area after the fire was extinguished to allow for an initial assessment of damage and safety risks. The incident disrupted the immediate area during the early hours but was resolved before dawn.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire, and an investigation is ongoing. Police said inquiries would focus on how the blaze began at the tent beside the building and whether any safety lapses contributed to its spread. Findings from the investigation are expected to inform any further action or recommendations.

Khoasod reported that in the coming days, officials are expected to complete a detailed inspection of the site to establish the exact cause and assess structural safety. The injured victims will continue to receive medical care, while the shop owner may face inspections related to fire safety compliance.
