Police in Samut Prakan have arrested a 27-year-old man accused of assaulting his elder brother to death following a drinking session to celebrate the New Year, in a case that has shocked colleagues and local residents. The suspect allegedly attacked the victim while he was asleep, resulting in fatal injuries discovered hours later.

The incident was reported at 6.00 pm on 30 December, when officers from Mueang Samut Prakan Police Station were alerted to a body found inside a glass and aluminium shop in Phraek Sa Mai subdistrict. The deceased was identified as Mr Kritsada, aged 29, who was found lying on his back on a bed, shirtless, with a torn lip and bruising to the face. Police estimated he had been dead for no less than 10 hours.

The suspect, Mr Sarayut, aged 27, was found at the scene in an intoxicated state and waited to surrender to police. Officers took him into custody for questioning before later escorting him to re-enact the crime on 31 December 2568 at 10.35 am.

During interrogation, Mr Sarayut confessed that he and his brother had been drinking alcohol together before arguing. Although they initially separated to rest, he said he remained angry over repeated scoldings from his brother about causing problems. He then took a wooden plank, entered the room while Mr Kritsada was asleep, struck him on the face and strangled him until he became motionless.

After the assault, the suspect admitted to disposing of the wooden plank in a wooded area behind the shop before returning to sleep. When he later woke up and found that his brother did not regain consciousness, he contacted the shop owner, initially claiming not to know what had happened. He subsequently admitted his actions during police questioning.

The shop owner told police that both brothers had worked at the shop for about one year and regularly drank alcohol together after work. Arguments between them were frequent, particularly involving the younger brother’s hot-tempered behaviour, but the owner said he never expected the disputes to escalate into a fatal incident.

SiamNews reported that police have charged Mr Sarayut with assault causing death and have detained him for further legal proceedings. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and prepare the case for prosecution under the law, while the suspect remains in custody.
