A 21-year-old woman in Chaiyaphum province has reported being lured to a meeting by her former boyfriend using a fake Facebook account, before being abducted at gunpoint and raped, with the suspect later evading arrest by fleeing through a window as police arrived. The incident, reported on 3 January, has prompted an urgent manhunt by officers at Thep Sathit Police Station due to the suspect’s use of a firearm and the seriousness of the offence.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Mr Thanwa, had ended a relationship with the victim more than a year earlier before allegedly devising the plan to contact her again. Investigators said he used another person’s Facebook account to message the woman, claiming he had an important matter to discuss and arranging to meet near the entrance to a village in Thep Sathit district, Chaiyaphum.

When the woman arrived and realised the person she was meeting was her former boyfriend, she attempted to flee on her motorcycle. Police said Mr Thanwa then cut her off, produced a handgun and forced her into his vehicle before taking her through a dark, isolated sugarcane field to a residence.

At the house, the victim told officers she was restrained with adhesive tape over her mouth and around her arms and was raped once until the suspect was satisfied. Police stated that the suspect set up a mobile phone to record a video of the assault, allegedly to use as leverage to threaten or shame the victim.

Relatives became aware of the situation and alerted authorities, prompting police to rush to the residence to assist the woman. However, officers said the suspect became aware of their arrival and escaped by jumping out of a window and fleeing into nearby woodland under cover of darkness, leaving behind his motorcycle as evidence.

The victim later accompanied journalists to the scene, describing the area as remote and unlit, and said she feared for her life during the ordeal. She confirmed her intention to pursue legal action to the fullest extent, while investigators said they are gathering evidence to seek an arrest warrant and track down the suspect, whom they described as dangerous due to his access to a firearm.

Daily News reported that police at Thep Sathit said the case is being treated as a priority, with officers continuing efforts to locate Mr Thanwa and bring him to justice.
