Six Chinese held over Cambodian murder case

Cambodian police have arrested six Chinese nationals in connection with the killing of a man whose body was discovered at a rubber plantation in Tbong Khmum province.

Authorities identified the victim as Xiao Yang, a 30-year-old Chinese citizen. His body was found on Thursday afternoon at the Memot Company plantation after workers reported seeing a group of men arrive in a Toyota Land Cruiser, unload a corpse, and drive away.

Memot District Police Deputy Chief Major Veng Saroeun said the victim bore signs of torture and blunt-force injuries. “The victim was tortured and beaten to death before being transported to the plantation,” he confirmed.

Investigators later found an abandoned vehicle linked to the suspects near the Cambodia–Vietnam border. By Friday, six Chinese casino employees were detained at their residence in Memot district. They are currently being questioned by the provincial criminal unit and are expected to appear in court today. Their identities have not yet been disclosed.

The victim’s body has been transferred to Toek Thla Pagoda in Phnom Penh for examination before being released to relatives for funeral arrangements.

The case comes amid a spate of violent incidents involving foreign nationals in Cambodia. Over the weekend, police launched a manhunt for a foreigner accused of killing his girlfriend at a Sihanoukville casino. Separately, two Vietnamese men were arrested in Phnom Penh after authorities seized more than 18 kilograms of Ecstasy in a major drugs bust.

The arrests highlight growing concerns over organised crime and violence linked to foreign workers and casino operations in Cambodia, with police under pressure to tighten enforcement along provincial and border areas.
