A six-wheel truck used to transport students overturned on a main road in Roi Et province on the afternoon of 5 January, leaving numerous schoolchildren injured and prompting an urgent emergency response. The vehicle flipped onto its roof and smoke was reported at the scene, causing alarm among nearby residents and motorists. Police confirmed that students from primary and secondary levels were among those hurt.

The accident occurred at about 4.20pm on the Phanom Phrai–Maha Chana Chai road, outside a resort in Ban Thai Sombun village, Phanom Phrai subdistrict, Phanom Phrai district. Officers from Phanom Phrai Police Station were alerted to the crash and immediately coordinated with rescue teams. On arrival, responders found the school transport truck overturned, with smoke visible, but no fire and two injured passengers trapped under the vehicle.

Rescue workers from Wat Klang Udomvej and emergency medical teams from Phanom Phrai Hospital worked to extract the trapped victims and provide first aid at the scene. Initial reports indicated that 16 people were injured in total, 14 of them students travelling home from school. The injured were transported to Phanom Phrai Hospital for further treatment, though no fatalities were reported.

Images shared on social media by Facebook user May Praphaphan showed the truck lying upside down and smoke rising from the wreckage, underscoring the severity of the crash. The road section where the incident occurred is a busy local route, particularly during school travel hours. Authorities did not immediately provide details on what caused the vehicle driver to lose control and overturn.

Police said an investigation would be carried out to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash, including the condition of the vehicle and the road at the time. Officers are also expected to speak with the driver and witnesses once the immediate medical response is complete.

Matichon reported that the incident has again drawn attention to the safety of student transport vehicles in provincial areas, where many pupils rely on adapted trucks for daily travel. Local authorities are expected to review safety measures and ensure compliance with transport regulations following the investigation.
