A van registered in Bangkok crashed off the road and slammed into an LED sign at the Kamphaeng Phet weigh station on 11 January 2026, bursting into flames and killing the driver trapped inside. The vehicle was engulfed by fire following the impact, leaving the male driver burned to death at the steering wheel. Emergency services were unable to rescue the victim due to the intensity of the blaze and explosions from the vehicle.

The accident occurred at about 05:20 on 11 January 2026 at a U-turn near the Kamphaeng Phet weigh station in Tha Sa Kradong, Moo 2, Ang Thong subdistrict, Mueang district, Kamphaeng Phet province. Police were alerted to a van colliding with an LED sign pole and catching fire, with one person trapped inside. Officers from Mueang Kamphaeng Phet Police Station attended the scene alongside rescue volunteers from the Kamphaeng Phet Sawang Thammasathan Foundation and local disaster prevention officials.

At the scene, authorities found the van, registration from Bangkok, completely ablaze. Firefighters quickly used water hose-lines and brought the fire under control. The vehicle was destroyed by the flames, with no passengers or luggage found inside the cabin, while two NGV gas cylinders were discovered at the rear of the van.

The driver, an unidentified adult male, was found dead in the front seat, his body severely burned. Residents nearby reported hearing a loud crash, followed by barking dogs, before seeing the van on fire. They said they could not assist due to the flames and repeated explosions from the vehicle and emergency crews arrived shortly afterwards to contain the fire.

CCTV footage from the area shows the van travelling at high speed before veering off the road without any sign of braking. The vehicle then struck the LED sign at the weigh station, causing an explosion, sparks and a rapidly spreading fire that led to the fatality. Police have not yet determined the cause of the crash.

Daily News reported that investigators are awaiting forensic officers reports after examining the scene and vehicle in detail. Officials from the Kamphaeng Phet Highway District have begun a preliminary assessment of damage to the weigh station infrastructure. Police are also checking vehicle registration records and other evidence to confirm the identity of the deceased before proceeding with administrative steps.
