Supermarkets including Winmart, Bach Hoa Xanh, and GO! have begun refunding customers for Halong Canfoco pate and tuna. This decision came after 130 tonnes of pork infected with African swine fever was discovered at the company's Hai Phong City plant. As a result, grocery stores like Bui Thi Nga's in the area are reimbursing customers, aiming to maintain trust despite the manufacturer's issues.

Halong Canfoco was previously a respected name in Vietnam's food industry, established in 1957 and known for producing various food items such as sausages, pate, and canned vegetables. However, recent events have led to significant challenges for the company. The arrest of CEO Truong Sy Toan for his connection to the infected pork has further damaged the company's reputation, leading to the temporary closure of one of its three production plants in Hai Phong.

Despite the company's assertion that their products meet quality standards, the lack of a formal recall hasn't stopped consumers and grocers from being cautious. Many stores across Hanoi and HCMC have ceased selling Halong Canfoco products, accepting returns and issuing refunds for unopened items. Major supermarkets are following suit, with Bach Hoa Xanh allowing exchanges and refunds within seven days if receipts are available, while Winmart accepts returns regardless of purchase date.

Looking forward, the shutdown of the Hai Phong plant, which has a considerable production capacity, poses potential supply challenges for the company. The next steps for Halong Canfoco will likely include addressing regulatory concerns and regaining consumer trust. As the situation evolves, the company must contend with the financial and reputational impacts of these developments, reported VN Express.
