Marriage visa consideration period

Featured Replies

Ok this is a hypothetical question I hope, I must report for my final stamp 17th Jan, on Saturday, rang my IO yesterday, to go today 16th, they told me it has not been approved yet, by Bangkok, but maybe later today, now I understand I can go on the 19th as they would not be open on the day of required report, but what would happen if it is still not approved...I'm a little bit worried now......😟

There's a fairly good chance they didn't even check, and will just tell you to return on or after your date as they don't want people coming in early.

It is not uncommon for those up country immigration offices (especially the ones up in Nakhon Nowhere) to have under consideration stamps run past the return by date.

You won't be on overstay because the 30 day under consideration stamp is actually the first month of your new yearly extension (at least in most cases it is ;) )

Keep in touch with them, and if you're close to the immigration office I'd show up Monday anyway just to make them aware you got an open under consideration stamp

Just to say I don't have to be close as my wife phones them.....

You can her go to immigration for stamp if you want.

I know that, but what happens if I am refused my extension ?

That would be almost unheard of.

You local immigration office carefully check over the application.

If they accept it and in turn goes to regional head office it will be approved. Chill

It won't be rejected.

Go to immigration on Monday after wife checks (phone) that the eagle has landed.

I already said my wife got a call to go, but you still didn't answer my question above.

One more time: It won't be rejected.

I have NEVER read or heard of a rejection by head office.

I can imagine perhaps a request for something to be added, however have never even heard of that.

I personally have never heard of an application for extension being denied after the under consideration period.

They vet your paperwork when you apply, and as I said at most offices the 30 day under consideration stamp is the first month of your next year extension.

But to answer your question:

In the totally unheard of event where your extension might be denied they would sell you a 7-Day get out of Thailand application for extension denied stamp that would be effective the date you went back when the under consideration stamp expired.

Again in my many dealings with foreigners and immigrations I have never heard of a single instance where an extension based on marriage to a thai national on an under consideration stamp was not approved.

If it's not going to fly they're not going to give you the 30-day under consideration stamp because they don't want to forward paperwork that they already know isn't going to work to the head office.

Glad you got your extension approved,

Actually that is not true, I've never heard of an extension based on marriage to a thai national to be denied when they showed up on the day the under consideration stamp ran out.

The reason I know they'd sell you a 7 day application for extension not approved stamp that gives you a week to get out of because I did once see an under consideration stamp from a non B Visa extension based on employment get rejected.

Some salary issue or something (it was years and years ago). The person showed up on the date the under consideration stamp ran out, was told the application was denied, was sold that 7 day get out of dodge stamp,

They left the country a few days later and got a new non B Visa to start the extension process over again

I know of one that was declined, returned to local IO and the applicant requested to resubmit with all new updated documents.
He was advised by his local office two weeks into his under consideration period.
The reason being the copies were so faded they claimed they were unintelligible.

He resubmitted 2 days later and was given a further 30 day under consideration stamp.
