A 73-year-old former civil servant was killed after being struck by a saloon car while crossing a major road in Pathum Thani province, police confirmed on 19 January 2026. The collision occurred on Rangsit–Nakhon Nayok Road near Khlong 9 in Thanyaburi district, with the victim suffering catastrophic injuries and dying at the scene.

Police said the collision happened at about 8.30pm on 18 January, prompting an emergency response from officers at Thanyaburi Police Station and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation. The woman’s body was found near a roadside guardrail, some distance from the point of impact, underscoring the force of the collision.

According to investigators, the victim was identified as Mrs Suchasini, aged 73, a former civil servant with the Department of Intellectual Property. She was attempting to cross from the outbound side of Rangsit–Nakhon Nayok Road at Khlong 9, using a gap in the central barrier, to reach the inbound lanes.

Witness information gathered at the scene indicated that after reaching the central barrier, Mrs Suchasini began running across the inbound lanes. At that moment, a white Toyota Vios travelling towards the city struck her at speed, causing her left leg to be severed and throwing her body towards the roadside barrier, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Mr Patiwat, aged 47, a chef employed at a well-known restaurant in the Khlong 11 area of Lam Luk Ka district. The car, bearing Chiang Mai registration plates, was found damaged at the scene and secured for further examination.

Mr Nares Naksangthong, a Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteer, told police that the driver stated the victim suddenly ran across the road after emerging from the central barrier. Officers documented the scene with photographs before arranging for the body to be transferred for forensic examination.

Pol Lt Tt Thanasorn Chaemchoi, an investigating officer at Thanyaburi Police Station, said the body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Science at Thammasat University, Rangsit. The driver was taken to the police station to provide further testimony as part of the ongoing investigation.

ThaiRath reported that police said they will contact the victim’s relatives to collect the body and proceed with religious funeral rites once examinations are complete. Legal proceedings will follow after investigators review forensic results and witness statements.

Nobody above the age of 50 should be doing runners across roads anywhere let alone Thailand. Find a crosswalk and even then , be vigilant.

Can't really blame the car driver for that one - no one should be crossing a road like that on foot...

A quick look on google maps shows there is a footbridge 6mins walk away - but the road engineering itself is terrible to non-existent from a pedestrian safety point of view...

This is one of the reasons why its imperative to have dash-cam.
