The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has announced that night flight operations will be extended at six domestic airports to accommodate increased travel demand during the 2026 Lunar New Year and spring festival. This change will be in effect from February 1 to March 1 at Tho Xuan, Dong Hoi, Chu Lai, Phu Cat, Pleiku, and Tuy Hoa airports. The move aims to manage the expected surge in passengers and ensure efficient air travel during the holiday period.

This decision follows similar actions in previous years, where the CAAV made adjustments to flight schedules to meet higher passenger volumes. The upcoming Lunar New Year, a significant holiday in Vietnam marked by mass travel, typically sees a spike in air travel as families reunite and celebrate. By extending operating hours, the CAAV looks to better manage air traffic and provide travelers with more flexible flight options.

The CAAV has directed the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) to work closely with airlines and service providers. This coordination will focus on ensuring adequate staff coverage and the smooth flow of airport operations. The extended hours are seen as beneficial to both travelers and the aviation industry, potentially easing the congestion that characterizes peak travel times.

Moving forward, the CAAV's strategy involves continuous monitoring of the situation to adjust operations as necessary during this busy period. This proactive approach highlights the importance of planning and resource allocation in managing seasonal travel demands. The success of this initiative could set a precedent for similar strategies in future holiday seasons, reported VN Express.
