Credit institutions in Vietnam remain optimistic about business prospects in 2026 despite cautious profit growth projections, as revealed by the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) survey. Although overall business performance and pre-tax profits improved in Q4 2025, they did not meet prior expectations. The forecast suggests a continuation of the positive trend in 2026, albeit with lower pre-tax profit growth compared to 2025.

In 2026, credit growth is expected to exceed 18%, with bad debt remaining under control. The Q4 2025 survey showed significant improvement in customer demand for banking services, such as deposits and loans, although it fell short of earlier predictions. The demand for loans, especially from corporate customers, rose more sharply than for payment and card services.

The survey indicates a continued improvement in banking service demand through 2026, particularly in lending. Liquidity in the banking system was strong in Q4 2025, though slightly below previous forecasts, with interest rates on Vietnamese đồng deposits rising to meet year-end capital demand. Institutions anticipate further liquidity improvements and a capital mobilisation increase of 4.2% in Q1 2026 and 16.3% for the year.

Credit is expected to rise by 4.4% in Q1 2026, reaching 18.1% for the year, an increase from the SBV's September 2025 survey. Despite a slight rise in customer risk levels observed by end-2025, these are projected to decline and stabilize throughout 2026. The average non-performing loan ratio, which edged up due to strong credit growth at the end of 2025, is predicted to decrease in 2026.

Credit institutions highlight that macroeconomic policies and the economic environment are set to enhance business operations in 2026. The ongoing positive outlook underscores confidence in the financial system's health, with strategic responses to market demands and conditions, reported Vietnam News.

Key Takeaways

  • Vietnamese credit institutions are optimistic about 2026 despite cautious profit forecasts.
