Vietnam has deployed elite sniper teams to rooftops across Hanoi for enhanced security during the 14th National Party Congress. These teams maintain round-the-clock surveillance from key positions, forming a comprehensive security network to ensure the event's safety. The Congress, running from January 19 to January 23, 2026, compels rigorous monitoring with overlapping protection layers at various venues.

Special police units, under the Ministry of Public Security, have been stationed at strategic high points linked to the Congress. These units work in shifts, combining sniper operations with high-altitude surveillance. Security officials emphasize the need for precision and discipline, as even minor errors are seen as unacceptable.

Security measures extend beyond rooftops, with additional units at airports, the National Convention Center, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, and other locations. Rapid-response teams are ready to manage emergencies involving pursuits, hostage situations, and counterterrorism. Officers are equipped with advanced weapons and remain in an operational state, ready to act on orders.

As of January 21, leaders continue to present policy proposals and feedback on documents critical for Vietnam's future development. The Congress, gathering 1,586 delegates, including Party members, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, intellectuals, artists, and religious figures, is noted for its reduced duration, being 1.5 days shorter than planned, reported VN Express.

Key Takeaways

  • Elite sniper teams are deployed in Hanoi for Congress security.

  • Security spans multiple high-risk areas with rapid-response readiness.

  • Congress involves 1,586 delegates and runs until January 23, 2026.
