Four South Korean nationals have been fined and expelled from Vietnam for conducting an unauthorized labor recruitment event in Cần Thơ City. The individuals, Wi Changbok, Kim Sangyong, Pak Junho, and Lee Sunh, were penalized VNĐ17.5 million each (approximately US$665) and ordered to leave the country. This action follows a violation of Government Decree No. 282/2025/NĐ-CP, as they operated without necessary approvals.

The event occurred on January 10 at a café in Tân An Ward, where the group hosted a session titled "Visa E8-2". Attended by about 50 participants from Cà Mau and An Giang provinces, the event involved sharing information and conducting interviews for seasonal work opportunities in South Korea. Once local authorities noticed the gathering, it was reported to the Immigration Management Division for verification.

One individual, Lee Sunh, revealed her former Vietnamese nationality as Lê Ngọc Thanh Hoa. She became a South Korean citizen in 2010 after marrying a South Korean national in 2005. Investigations showed she arrived in Vietnam from Hà Nội on January 8, while her associates entered through Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport in HCM City.

Authorities noted an intention to combine tourism with the labor recruitment seminar for South Korean farm owners without obtaining the necessary permissions. This oversight led to the fines and swift expulsion of the group.

Local law enforcement urged stricter control over events involving foreign nationals and emphasized the need for better public awareness regarding legal aspects of overseas employment. They advised a proactive approach to prevent future violations and protect local interests, reported Vietnam News.

Key Takeaways

  • Four South Korean nationals were fined and expelled for unauthorized recruitment activities in Vietnam.

  • The group failed to secure required approvals, planning an unlawful labor seminar alongside tourism.
