Nine vacant land plots in downtown Ho Chi Minh City are set to be transformed into flower gardens and parks for the Lunar New Year. These locations, primarily unused for years, have been repurposed to provide more green spaces in the city center. This initiative follows directives from city Party Secretary Tran Luu Quang.

The plots include notable sites such as the one at No. 8 Vo Van Tan Street, originally planned for the Phan Dinh Phung Indoor Stadium. The project faced delays, with construction now set to start in 2027 and complete by 2029. Workers are currently preparing this 14,400-square-meter site for conversion into a Tet park, improving its immediate environment.

Another significant site is the 9,000-square-meter plot at 135 Nguyen Hue Street, the former Tax Trade Center, intended to link with Metro Line 1. Legal issues have prevented construction since the old structure was demolished in 2016. Temporary cultural events often take place here.

Legal and administrative challenges have affected other prime locations. The SJC Building project, two plots managed by Vinafood 2, and the land plot at 8-12 Le Duan Street, all remain fenced and unused. Issues include transfer violations and changes in investment plans. The Department of Agriculture and Environment notes these prime sites are stalled due to obstacles like planning adjustments.

Future developments hinge on resolving these legal complexities. Upon clearance, the long-term construction work will resume, replacing the temporary gardens. This transformation reflects the city’s effort to enhance its urban landscape while awaiting project approvals, reported VN Express.

Key Takeaways

  • Nine prime land plots in Ho Chi Minh City are being converted into temporary gardens for Lunar New Year.

  • Delays due to legal issues and planning changes have left these areas unused for years.

  • Long-term developments will proceed once legalities are resolved.
