A critically ill male patient weighing more than 260 kilogrammes was safely transferred between hospitals in Nakhon Ratchasima on 25 January after suffering acute heart problems. The complex operation ensured the patient reached advanced care alive, despite severe medical and logistical challenges. He is now receiving ongoing treatment at Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital.

The operation was disclosed on 26 January by Dr Jesada Boonyawongviroj, Deputy Director of Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital, who shared images of the rescue on his “Mor Jed” page. The patient was initially treated at Pak Chong Nana Hospital in Pak Chong district, where his condition deteriorated with acute heart problems. Due to his critical state, he required intubation and continuous mechanical ventilation throughout the transfer.

The patient’s weight made a standard ambulance transfer impossible, prompting an alternative solution using a vehicle towing truck. He was transported lying on a hospital bed, with ventilatory equipment attached and monitored at all times by a medical team travelling with him. The transfer began at approximately 7.30pm on 25 January and covered a distance of 98 kilometres along Mittraphap Road.

Medical teams faced constant risks during the journey, including unstable vital signs, airway management difficulties and the effects of extreme body weight on blood pressure and circulation. Detailed planning covered patient positioning, ventilator control, vital sign monitoring and precise coordination of timing and route. Dr Jesada described the mission as a rare and demanding operation requiring absolute precision at every step.

Support was provided by local police officers and emergency responders, including the Sawang Wichathammasathan Pak Chong rescue team, who managed traffic and ensured a clear route. The vehicle travelled at approximately 60 kilometres per hour to balance safety with urgency. The patient arrived at Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital without further complications during transit.

Dr Jesada thanked all agencies involved, including the police, for their cooperation. He said the successful outcome demonstrated how effective referral systems, prepared teams and determination are essential to seamless patient care within the public health system. Images from the operation were credited to Rot Hae Pangpond Sound.

SiamNews reported that the patient remains under close medical supervision at Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital. Further treatment will continue as doctors manage his heart failure and related complications. No additional updates on his condition have yet been released.

Imagine what a human heart has to deal with to keep a man like that going, with all the arterial issues, all the cholesterol in his blood, and the various circulatory issues that come from that level of obesity?

What a way to live. Is that really a life worth living?

Unless this was caused by an underlying sickness, I don,t have much Sympathy for this kind of people.

Heart surgery is no joke. Kudos to the surgeon. Can someone help him loose a little weight? My god. Where is his family and friends?

Doubtful he has any friends.

Doubtful, no one other than his mother did this. At his size he was not able to go and get the massive caloric intake needed to create this.
