A man from Buriram’s Lahan Sai district reported on Sunday that his partner disappeared with a 5,000 baht aid payment, leaving him to care for their two-year-old child alone. The aid was meant for families impacted by border conflict. This claim surfaced on social media when the man posted an image with his wife, accusing her of abandoning their child after collecting the government assistance.

The man, a 49-year-old van driver from Nong Waeng subdistrict, stated they had been together for about four years after his previous wife passed. They shared a child, though never legally married. He noted that arguments were a part of their relationship but insisted they were non-violent.

The couple previously shared a 5,000 baht aid payment during the first wave of evacuations near the Thai-Cambodian border, which they spent on household needs. However, during a second evacuation, his partner allegedly left with the new aid payment on January 24, leaving their child with him.

He suspects familial disapproval played a role in her departure, particularly due to his financial instability and inability to fund a formal wedding. Despite his heartbreak, his main concern remains the wellbeing of their child. He is currently struggling to meet basic needs like milk and nappies due to reduced van service demand.

Attempts by Honekrasae to contact the woman were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the man expressed willingness to take on additional work to support his child. The story caught public attention as it highlights the challenges faced by those relying on government aid and the social pressures that might influence family dynamics in distressed regions, reported The Thaiger.

That is always a problem.... money in Thailand. I once went to an orphanage, but we could not meet kids as they were at their families... If you help or give money most of the times the money will disappear and the help was useless. Same with winning the lottery, as soon as family and neighbours have knowledge you won a big sum or have some money, everybody will come to ask for help and although they don't say it, for eternity..Never pay back. My experiences have made me that I only give things they need. I buy them for them as with Christmas for example a box with food supplies,,,never cash
