Trump Tells Iran: Hurry Up or Else

Featured Replies

Donald Trump is turning up the heat on Iran, warning that "time is running out" for a nuclear deal as US military power surges in the Gulf. A "massive armada" is heading towards Iran with "great power, enthusiasm, and purpose," Trump declared. But Tehran isn't backing down. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi vows a fierce response, fingers "on the trigger" and ready to strike at any sign of aggression.

What's at stake? Iran insists its nuclear program is peaceful, denying claims of nuclear weapon ambitions. But Trump's warned Iran of severe consequences if deals aren't struck soon. His recent declaration follows a shift after he hinted at US support for protesters facing brutal crackdowns in Iran. Human rights groups claim over 6,301 have died amid protests. With theories rampant, accusations of brutality hang over Tehran like a dark cloud.

Trump's urging Iran to 'Come to the Table' for a fair nuclear deal, repeating his mantra: NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS. The naval fleet now in the Gulf is reportedly larger than any sent before, poised for action yet hoping for a peaceful resolution. Tensions boil after last June's US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites during a volatile period with Israel. "The next attack will be far worse!" Trump warns, ramping up pressure.

Araghchi retorts, stating Iran is open to a fair deal without coercion. He insists nuclear weapons aren't on Iran's agenda, claiming they've "NEVER sought to acquire them." Messaged exchanges with the US occur, but no full-blown talks are underway, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister confirms.

US military enhancements in the region speak volumes. BBC Verify reveals 15 fighter jets landing in Jordan, more arriving in Qatar and Diego Garcia. Surveillance activity intensifies with drones and spy planes near Iranian airspace. The USS Abraham Lincoln, leading the naval ‘armada’, is confirmed in the Middle East, alongside destroyers and combat ships in Bahrain. Increased regional US presence signals an escalating posture.

Iran's counter-move? Deploying the IRIS Shahid Bagheri drone carrier off its coast. Under an earlier 2015 agreement, Iran agreed to enrichment restrictions, but Trump abandoned the deal in 2018, leading to increased uranium production breaches by Tehran. Now, the stakes are higher.

As negotiations loom uncertain, US demands Iran cease uranium enrichment, limit missile developments, and halt support for proxies. Will diplomacy reign? Iran once retaliated with missile strikes on a US base in Qatar after a US operation named "Midnight Hammer" targeted nuclear sites. Which side will move first? Brimming tensions hang on a knife-edge.

Key Takeaways

  • Trump's naval "massive Armada" steers towards Iran, tensions sizzle!

  • Iran declares readiness, fingers on triggers for immediate response.

  • Calls for fair, coercion-free atomic deals ring with rhetorical fury.

But but,

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/1/28/make-deal-or-face-far-worse-attack-trump-tells-iran-in-new-threat

The US president added that “hopefully Iran will quickly ‘Come to the Table’ and negotiate a fair and equitable deal – NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS – one that is good for all parties. Time is running out, it is truly of the essence! As I told Iran once before, MAKE A DEAL!”

Trump referred to nuclear weapons despite repeatedly claiming that last year’s US attacks “obliterated” the Iranian nuclear programme.

Have any on his staff pointed out that US, Iran, China, Russia, UK etc had an effective working deal when he came to office first time around and promptly tossed it in the waste bin of history? I doubt it, but can't confirm as he pays no attention to anyone. Instinct or Id only

If the official statements are to be believed, there appear to be a number of reasons for the increased pressure on Iran.

Pompeo and Trump have repeatedly said that it is to force Iran into a new and more comprehensive negotiation.

Any "deal" according to Trump would not be negotiable, and would result in:

1. A Permanent halt to any nuclear weapons ambitions.

2. An end to Iran's development of ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

3. A curbing of Iran's regional influence and support for proxy groups across the Middle East.

We are told that the objective is not "regime change"! But, surely Trump's "maximum pressure" campaign must result in significant changes in the Iranian government's behavior.

A cynic would suggest that the issue of oil must also be a component of Trump's strategy. By reducing Iran's oil exports Trump could deprive the regime of revenue to fund its activities.

Thinking you can stop a government killing its people by launching missiles that will kill more people is barmy. There has to be another way.

Yeah, but if there is, I don't know it.

Regime change to a better government would do it, but there is zero chance that Trump would be willing to commit to that level of involvement, and frankly, most Americans wouldn't support that either.

At the end of the day, for a new Iranian revolution to work, that needs to come from the Iranian people.

So many willing to be killed for that, but so far, not enough.

Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, will travel to Ankara for talks aimed at preventing a US attack, as Turkish diplomats seek to convince Tehran it must offer concessions over its nuclear programme if it is to avert a potentially devastating conflict.

Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, proposed a video conference between Donald Trump and his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian. Senior defence and intelligence officials from Israel and Saudi Arabia were also in Washington for talks on Iran this week, Axios reported on Thursday.

Marco Rubio, the US secretary of state, said on Wednesday that about 30,000 US military personnel were “within the reach of an array of thousands of Iranian one-way UAVs and Iranian short-range ballistic missiles”.

A senior Iranian official told Reuters that Iran was “preparing itself for a military confrontation, while at the same time making use of diplomatic channels”.

Iran has remained defiant, with army chief Maj Gen Amir Hatami announcing that since the 12-day war in June, Iran has revised tactics and built 1,000 sea and land-based drones. He said the drones and Iran’s extensive ballistic missile arsenal could provide a crushing response to any attack. Iran’s greatest military weakness is its air defences.

Ex-CIA covert intelligence officer Andrew Bustamante suggests that a Venezuela-style intervention in Iran appears unlikely, '' The United States does not have military dominance on the border of Iran, like we had military dominance on the border of Venezuela; we don't have a case for the Ayatollah, we don't have a legal indictment that would be something we could charge against the Ayatollah."

ayotollah.jpg

Bustamante continued, ''it makes more sense that the United States would support and provide material resources, money and intelligence to Israel and allow Israel to go in and assassinate the Ayatollah. That makes more sense.''

"That's strategically beneficial to the United States, strategically beneficial to Israel, strategically beneficial to Europe. It allows Israel to wear kind of the crown of thorns, if you will, because the world will criticise them instead of the United States, but it still achieves the same American primacy objective that Donald Trump wants."

Ex-CIA spy says Donald Trump could launch 'crown of thorns' plot to assassinate Iran leader

But what happens after assassinating the Ayatollah? It would upset all the hardliners and the Revolutionary Guards. Nothing would change. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Giving them $3 billion a year, unlimited military and intelligence support, and a reliable veto at the UN security council hasn't worked, so maybe some bunker busters on Tel Aviv might do the trick.

You make a good point, but what can be done?

When Iran is killing thousands of its own people, the UN is doing nothing really, except condemning it.

No proposal for UNSC-approved military action has reached the table, largely because key veto-holding members (Russia, China) protect Iran diplomatically.

It looks it will be left up to the US to do something?
