A British man was injured after illegally paragliding and crashing into a cliff in Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, Krabi. Rangers found the 52-year-old suspended from the cliff with leg injuries, following a sudden change in wind direction. He was rescued and hospitalized, with legal consequences pending for violating park regulations.

The accident was discovered by park rangers near Ton Sai Beach during a routine patrol at 10:27 am on January 28. The man's parachute had become tangled in rocks and trees. A drone survey revealed his condition, allowing for a coordinated rescue with local emergency services and cliff-climbing experts.

Rescue teams successfully reached the man at 4:37 pm, administering first aid before transporting him to Wattanapat Hospital. The medical assessment confirmed leg scratches and a broken leg bone. The incident highlights the illegal nature of paragliding in the park, which is banned under the National Park Act to protect the environment.

The park authorities have not yet detailed potential penalties the man may face for his actions. Meanwhile, a similar occurrence last week involved a foreign visitor illegally flying a drone in Khao Yai National Park, frightening elephants but causing no injuries. No legal actions have been announced for that case.

Looking forward, authorities are expected to evaluate and update enforcement measures for park activities to prevent further incidents. The recent violations underline the challenges parks face in balancing tourist activities with conservation efforts, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • A British man crashed while illegally paragliding in Krabi's national park.

  • The rescue operation involved drones and expert cliff climbers.

  • Legal outcomes for this violation are yet to be determined.
