A Vietnamese high school student was commended for rescuing a pilot who ejected from his aircraft during a training accident in Đắk Lắk. Nguyễn Thành Khang, 17, aided the pilot after hearing a loud explosion-like noise while at home, leading to the pilot’s safe transfer to medical care.

Khang was at his home when he heard the noise and discovered a pilot in distress near his family's livestock shed. The pilot, bleeding and in a flight suit, was identified as First Lieutenant Đinh Thành Trung of the 940th Air Regiment. Khang offered assistance and moved the pilot to his home's front porch until help arrived.

The incident occurred when Trung took off at 7:27 am in a YAK-130 jet for routine training. A technical malfunction led to the aircraft losing contact at 7:44 am, prompting Trung to eject after steering the plane away from residential areas. It crashed in Đông Hòa Ward's mountainous region.

A search team, including local military and fire rescue personnel, located the crash site and retrieved the aircraft’s black box. The Ministry of Defence has launched an investigation into the incident's root cause, ensuring future flights' safety and reliability.

Khang was formally recognized by the chairman of Hòa Hiệp Ward’s People's Committee for his quick action and bravery. The commendation highlights the importance of community in supporting military personnel during emergencies.

Looking forward, authorities are focusing on investigating the technical malfunction. The Defense Ministry's inquiry will determine the factors that led to the incident and implement measures to prevent similar occurrences. Khang’s exemplary actions may inspire protocols for citizen involvement in future emergencies, Vietnam News.
