Vietnamese police have arrested 17 people involved in a drug trafficking operation that masked illegal substances as e-cigarettes targeting students. The Ministry of Public Security’s Drug Crime Investigation Department (C04) announced these arrests following an investigation into illegal sales through social media and express delivery services across several provinces.

The investigation began with the apprehension of Nguyen Cong Oanh in Hanoi, who was caught with seven drug-laced parcels on January 9 intended for delivery. This led authorities to expand their probe into other areas, arresting additional suspects and seizing significant quantities of disguised drugs. The confiscated items included 9 kg of herbal drugs, 6 liters of CBD oil, 7.5 liters of drug-containing liquid, and 308 drug-laced cigarettes, all containing narcotic substances.

Most of the drugs, disguised as non-addictive e-cigarettes and CBD liquids, were aimed at students and teenagers. Unaware of their true nature, many young buyers were deceived by misleading advertisements. The operation relied on social media sales, with products shipped via express delivery upon payment.

Authorities warn of increasingly sophisticated methods employed by drug traffickers, using seemingly harmless products to entice users. Such drugs pose severe risks, including psychological disorders and mental health issues, especially harmful to teenagers whose bodies and minds are still developing.

C04 urges vigilance, advising parents to watch for unusual deliveries and signs of substance use in their children, reported VN Express.
