A Chinese citizen was arrested in Pattaya for selling ketamine-laced vape pods, dubbed "zombie pods," to tourists. The suspect, Yu Kun, 34, was caught by the local Pattaya and Provincial Police Region 2 teams in tambon Nong Prue, Chon Buri. Officers confiscated 12,000 baht and numerous ketamine pods following his arrest.

The arrest resulted from a tip-off about a Chinese tourist distributing ketamine-filled vape pods at parties. Undercover officers contacted Yu Kun, arranging to buy a pod at 1,200 baht in front of a condominium on Soi Thappraya 15. When Yu Kun arrived to make the transaction, the police arrested him with the marked banknotes and ketamine pods in hand.

Further investigation by the police led to the discovery of an additional 40 ketamine pods, 400 empty containers, and three bags of etomidate in his room. Yu Kun was detained and turned over to investigators to face legal charges. Pol Lt Col Kanisorn Apisom and Pol Capt Phubet Ruamsap led the operations from Police Region 2 and the Pattaya police station, respectively.

Experts warn that such drug circulation poses significant health risks to unsuspecting consumers seeking recreational substances at local venues. The arrest highlights ongoing challenges in combating illegal drug trade in tourist areas. Officials plan to intensify surveillance and enforcement efforts to curb similar incidents.

Authorities will focus on raising awareness among tourists and locals about the dangers of drug-laden vape products. The police intend to continue their investigation, possibly leading to further arrests or discovering broader networks involved in the distribution. Yu Kun faces serious legal repercussions as the case advances through the legal system.

Thailand really did itself a disservice by allowing visa free entry for certain countries.

The crims know where to come for easy profits.

It'll take a massive effort to reverse the tide of scum.

I wonder what the potential penalty is for this. Neighbouring countries still have the death penalty for drug trafficking and I expect this qualifies for that crime. Whatever it really is time the world got serious on drug dealing etc instead of treating it like a minor offence. It simply is ruining lives.

The Chinese really love their ketamine. It is their drug of choice.
