Vietnam Airlines has secured operating slots at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, marking a strategic expansion into a key European gateway. This move is expected to enhance passenger and cargo traffic between Vietnam and the Netherlands, accommodating the consistently high travel demand between the two nations.

The Netherlands serves as Vietnam's largest trading partner in Europe, with Vietnamese exports to the Dutch market surpassing US$11 billion in 2025. Investments by Dutch enterprises in Vietnam amount to approximately $16 billion, fostering robust economic ties. Additionally, the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands numbers around 27,000, contributing to elevated travel needs.

Annually, two-way passenger traffic between Vietnam and the Netherlands reaches 122,000. This new service is anticipated to boost options for cargo transport, particularly benefiting high-value exports to Europe. The addition of these flights will allow Vietnam Airlines to expand its network to 12 direct routes to Europe, connecting with eight major cities.

Experts highlight the significance of this expansion in solidifying Vietnam’s aviation presence in Europe, which could lead to increased trade and closer cultural exchange. The airline's new slots could also provide competitive leverage in the European market, enhancing connectivity for passengers and commodities alike.

Looking ahead, Vietnam Airlines will focus on integrating these new slots into its operational framework, optimizing flight schedules to maximize intercontinental trade and travel efficiency. This development is expected to further strengthen economic and cultural ties between Vietnam and Europe, reported VN Express.
