Four individuals have been arrested in Ho Chi Minh City for allegedly selling over 10,000 counterfeit perfumes under brands like Chanel, Versace, and Burberry. The group is accused of generating VND10 billion (US$386,400) by passing off the fake products as genuine.

Police discovered three warehouses in connection with Le Thi Kim Tuyen, 36, and her associates, containing a large stock of fake cosmetics. The investigation revealed that since early 2025, the group had primarily used online platforms to distribute these counterfeit items.

These fake perfumes posed health risks as they had not undergone quality checks. The police highlighted potential dangers, including chronic illnesses from prolonged use. With the Lunar New Year approaching, there is an increase in shopping activities, prompting warnings for consumers to verify product origins when buying online.

Authorities have urged e-commerce platforms to refrain from distributing counterfeit goods and to work closely with officials to maintain transparency. This collaborative effort aims to protect consumers and ensure that products are sourced legitimately.

Future measures will likely focus on enhancing regulations and enforcement against counterfeit products. Increased vigilance from both sellers and buyers is crucial to prevent such illegal activities, reported VN Express.

When the price difference between what it costs to manufacture something and what it sells for is high it allows lots of room for counterfeiters to slide in. Whatever the product this will happen.
