Thai soldiers and border police have seized nearly 10 kilograms of cannabis hidden in parcel boxes left at Rim Moei Market in Mae Sot district, Tak province, with authorities now working to identify and prosecute those responsible. The discovery was made during routine border patrols on 9 February 2026 and has highlighted ongoing efforts to curb illicit drug distribution along the Thai–Myanmar frontier.

The operation was carried out by soldiers from Ratchamanu Task Force together with Border Patrol Police Company 346 in Mae Sot district. Officers were conducting patrols along several border crossing points, including Tha Phutthara Pier, the First Thai–Myanmar Friendship Bridge, Tha Thong Dee Pier, and the adjacent 70 Rai border area. During the patrol, they noticed six large suspicious brown cardboard boxes placed along a walkway on the Rim Moei Market road in Moo 2, Tha Sai Luat subdistrict.

Upon inspection, the boxes were found to be parcel packages from three delivery companies: four boxes from Thailand Post, one from Flash Express and one from KEX Express. All six boxes contained controlled herbal material identified as cannabis, specifically light green cannabis flower buds. The total seizure comprised 36 wrapped packages with a combined weight of 9,700 grams.

Officials believe the parcels were deliberately left at the market to be collected by customers, a method that can reduce direct contact between sellers and buyers. Rim Moei Market is located close to the border and is known for high levels of commercial activity, making it a location of interest for smuggling and illicit trade monitoring.

After the discovery, officers seized the parcels as evidence and transported them to Border Patrol Police Company 346 for further examination. Authorities are reviewing closed-circuit television footage from the surrounding area to trace who delivered or abandoned the boxes. The aim is to identify the owner or those involved in arranging the shipment and to proceed with legal action under existing drug control laws.

Matichon reported that the case remains under investigation, and officials have not yet announced any arrests. Security forces in Mae Sot continue to maintain heightened patrols along the border, particularly at informal crossing points and busy commercial areas, as part of broader efforts to prevent illegal trafficking and enforce regulations on controlled substances.
