Pol. Lt. Col. Damchaluay Samkanying, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) at Nong Prue Police Station, reported the incident to superiors before arriving with detectives, forensic officers from Forensic Division 2 Chonburi, and Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit in Pattaya. The address was 41/78, a single-storey detached house in an upmarket estate valued at more than 10 million baht. A van and a Mercedes-Benz were parked under the car port.

Inside the living room, officers found the body of Mr. Wonhoa Jung, the homeowner, lying on his back on a sofa. He was wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt and black shorts and had sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest, with the bullet piercing his heart. A semi-automatic 11mm handgun was found near his right hand, along with one spent casing on the floor.

On a nearby table, police found a recently opened bottle of wine and a filled wine glass. The area was secured for detailed forensic examination. Investigators also recovered a handwritten note in Korean expressing distress and longing for his wife, stating: “Throughout my life I saw you every day, but when I haven’t seen you for 4 months, I miss you every day.”

Mr Sompong Thimthongkiat, 50, the deceased’s driver, told police he had arrived to collect his employer and was waiting outside when he received a call from the company instructing him to check inside the house. After entering using the access code, he found his employer lying on the sofa with blood on his chest and a firearm near his right hand. He immediately informed the company and contacted police.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was the owner of a cosmetic clinic business in Pattaya and a golf course. Police said his wife had died suddenly around four months earlier, after which he reportedly experienced stress and had written messages expressing despair. Officers have initially concluded the death was almost certainly self-inflicted.

The body will be sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Police General Hospital for a detailed post-mortem examination. Authorities will also examine the origin of the firearm before reaching a final legal conclusion.

It wasn't just that he hadn't seen her - it was that she had died suddenly 4 months ago, after which (as stated) he fell into a state of despair and he had also previously written multiple messages expressing this despair.

I missed that.

Thanks.

That would explain it then.

Shot from the left side, gun in the right hand. Perfect sense.

Clouseau, shot TO the left side, gun found in right hand. Gun in hand bend you right arm to your chest, it lands on your left side.

What is it about Pattaya that makes good men so depressed they choose to end it all? especially around Valentine's day. You'd think in a city with probably the highest women to men ratio in the world they'd find ways to be happy.

Thhe driver gained access to the house with the security code so you gotta wonder who else had the code and was the suicide note in his hand writing. Looks like he was well off so he's always gonna have enemies. I think this is a bit suspicious.

Sort of a Curt Cobain case here methinks. Suicide or ?

On the other hand, deep grief can kill, it's not so uncommon for the surviving partner to end it all in the first 6 mos.

Unless he was left handed.

I thought it odd he would shoot himself in the chest, I expect a shot in the head to be more common. Easy job for the police to say suicide.
