China's largest food delivery platform Meituan has opened an office in Ho Chi Minh City and initiated recruitment efforts. Registered in late 2025, Meituan Technology Co., Ltd. aims to engage in information technology and related services in Vietnam. While specific launch details remain unannounced, the company is actively hiring for business development roles.

Meituan Vietnam's job postings reveal plans for developing a digital services ecosystem, targeting partnerships with restaurants, hotels, and entertainment venues. New employees will focus on introducing the platform, signing up partners, and facilitating order processing. Meituan's expansion aligns with its position as a leader in China's online lifestyle services market, where food delivery constitutes its core business.

The move into Vietnam taps into a growing market where food delivery is often linked with ride-hailing services. Vietnam's app-based ride-hailing sector was valued at approximately $1 billion in the previous year, with expectations to surpass $3 billion by 2031, driven by a 19.5% annual growth rate. Over ten ride-hailing platforms, including majors like Grab, Xanh SM, and Be, are currently operating in the country.

Cimigo’s May 2025 report highlighted Be's dominance in the two-wheeler ride-hailing and food delivery segments. Meituan’s potential entry into this established and competitive market could reshape the landscape if operations formally launch.

As Meituan builds its local team, the company must navigate Vietnam's competitive environment, which favors integration of services. Moving forward, the company’s entry into Vietnam could introduce new dynamics in Vietnam's digital service offerings, contingent upon strategic partnerships and consumer adaptation, reported VN Express.

Key Takeaways

  • Vietnam's ride-hailing market, now $1 billion, could grow to $3 billion by 2031.

  • Meituan faces competition from established Vietnamese platforms like Grab and Be.
