Chinese-speaking workers in Vietnam are earning significantly higher salaries as demand for their language skills surges, driven by increased Chinese investment, particularly in manufacturing, engineering, and business sectors. According to the 2025 Salary Report from Joboko, workers proficient in Chinese earn up to 40% more than their non-Chinese-speaking counterparts. The report, which analyzed nearly 582,000 job postings, highlights a near 50% increase in jobs requiring Chinese from 2024 to 2025.

Chinese-speaking workers are seeing a rise in opportunities and wages, contrasting with those fluent in other languages, where demand grew by around 20%. Entry-level positions in sectors like manufacturing and engineering pay Chinese-proficient employees VND12-18 million monthly, significantly higher than for those without this skill. The demand for language skills is especially pronounced in roles requiring technical support and solution consulting, where pay can be 50-120% higher.

The trend is most evident in northern Vietnam, where Chinese investments are rapidly increasing. Bac Ninh Province, for example, has seen a spike in enterprises, predominantly from China, Korea, and Japan. Factories in the region, particularly in the electronics sector, are expected to create around 60,000 jobs in early 2026, with approximately 10,000 requiring Chinese proficiency.

Experts like Tran Van Quang from Bac Ninh Employment Service Center highlight the steep rise in salaries, noting that workers newly proficient in Chinese start from VND15 to 17 million monthly. This premium is fueled by high standards and fierce competition for the same talent. Companies often enhance language and professional skills by sending employees to China for training, in return for long-term commitments.

Going forward, the demand for Chinese-speaking workers is expected to grow as Chinese enterprises continue to invest heavily in the area. The Joboko report indicates that these companies are willing to offer higher salaries to ensure efficient communication and operations, a trend likely to persist for the next several years, reported VN Express.
