It's time to raise taxes. The low level they are at after so many tax cuts is unsustainable

The largest drivers of the debt are the social programs.

Socialist govt spending too much is the issue. They ALWAYS have to blame others, because socialist govts ALWAYS run out of (other peoples)money to spend.

  • It's also a social issue, and one that even spooks "lefties" like me. The vast and increasing gap between the average person and the elite is what drives today's youth into thinking Socialism is some

Nobody has ever made a poor man rich by taxing the rich. Politics of jealousy.

These people are clueless about the train wreck of the federal budget and the growth of the entitlement programs. Ingogrance is a lifestyle choice of the left.

@Alan Zweibel You need to head the CBO web page and subscribe to their publicans. You can't tax your way out of the federal budget mess.

FFS...you're thick headed. Spending at 23% of the GDP

The federal budget is growing faster then he growth of the GDP. I don't think you understand numbers.

Apparently, you think that only the expense side of the ledger counts and not the revenue side. And you accuse me of not understanding numbers? It is to laugh.

Yes it's always to laugh when you spew nonsense

You need to face a hard truth @Alan Zweibel. The Democrats have built an unsustainable federal budget that grows faster than the GDP. Crying about billionaires does not solve this problem. You are not going to raise taxes by 2 trillion dollars and then increase taxes by 2% each year to keep up with the federal spending.

You think that only slashing spending is the way to go? Why is it that you are unable to acknowledge that there are sides to a ledger? Right wingers seem to be suffering from a financial version of a neurological condition described by Oliver Sacks, the neurologist.

"The neurological condition where a person loses one half of their visual field (in both eyes) but often does not recognize or acknowledge the deficit is called homonymous hemianopia. When this is accompanied by a profound lack of awareness of the deficit (or neglect of the blind side), it is often referred to as hemispatial neglect or a specific visual field defect causing anosognosia (lack of insight).

I agree. It's time every American paid a minimum of 10% on all Income up to $100K, and 20% after that.

That comment should be in the joke section!

So should you thinking about the hilarious (lack of!) sense that comment makes!!

So, your position is that tax cuts have nothing or little to do with the present situation?

  • GDP Comparison: Reagan’s 1981 tax cut was estimated to have reduced federal revenue by 2.81% to 2.9% of GDP. Reversing this today—given a 2025 US GDP of roughly $29 trillion—would theoretically equate to a revenue increase of over $800 billion per year.

You also seem bizarrely enough to ignore the fact that Trump has proposed huge spending increases. Is he a secret Democrat?

I suppose I should be flattered by your 1/2 imitation of me. The difference, though, between your comment and mine is that I offer evidence and/or reasoning to back up my derision. All you offer is derision.

Agree, governments don't need to collect more money, they need to waste less money.

Copy/pasting AI search results is not offerring reasoning. It is monotonous and repetitive, and depending on how the search is conducted you predict your own results. Not helpful Im.afraid.

The left has to throw the money around to maintain power.

Spare us your grandstanding virtue signalling. If I remember correctly you used to work on wall st...or so you said.

Didn't have any issue at that time eh.

Smh. If that is the case I wonder how many lives you ruined and how many schemes and shady deals you pulled off.

Now after all that you have a conscious. I bet thats where your anger and vile name calling comes from. Driven by guilt.

Walking contradiction. But hey you're on the side of good now ?

Go team.

More of the same nonsense. Apparently, in your alternative universe, backing up assertions with evidence is not a done thing.

It beats offering nothing in the way of evidence, which is basically what you do. Your rebuttals are empty of reasoning and evidence.

Except that the cr*p you link to almost never supports your claims. You read a headline and post a link. Weak

The left measures success but how much they spend, never by results.

Here's what the person who, to judge by MAGA supporters' characterizations is really a secret Democrat, is proposing as part of his new budget:

Trump calls for US military spending to rise more than 50% to $1.5tn

President Donald Trump has called for US defence spending to be increased to $1.5tn (£1.1tn) in 2027 for what he called "these very troubled and dangerous times".

That would be more than 50% higher than this year's $901bn budget, which was approved by Congress in December.

"This will allow us to build the 'Dream Military' that we have long been entitled to and, more importantly, that will keep us SAFE and SECURE, regardless of foe," Trump said on social media on Wednesday.

The president also called on defence firms to increase production or face a crackdown on payouts.

Good point. I bet right now the Dems are planning to send a huge flotilla to attack Iran. Oh wait a minute...

The USA has never collected more than 20% of GDP in revenue, no matter the tax rate. Current spending is at 23% of GDP and growing. Go read up on Hauser’s law. It's so easy to understand that even a leftist should get it.

He can propose it all he wants. All spending originates on the House.

So, is the growth of the deficit only due to the rise in spending, or are tax cuts also responsible?

Did you bother to read my post with the data from the CBO?
