Traffic accidents during the first six days of the Bính Ngọ 2026 Lunar New Year holiday in Việt Nam decreased by more than a quarter compared to the same period last year, the Traffic Police Department reported. In comparison to the same day in 2025, while the number of accidents decreased by 12.96 percent, there was a 20.69 percent increase in deaths. Injuries, however, fell by 32.61 percent. The total for the first six days showed 271 accidents with 168 fatalities and 177 injuries, marking reductions of 26.36 percent in accidents, 17.24 percent in deaths, and 34.44 percent in injuries compared to the previous year's holiday.

The vast majority of incidents occurred on roads, with 270 cases reported. This reflects a 25.82 percent decrease in road accidents from the 2025 holiday period. Railways experienced one accident resulting in one fatality, while inland waterways had no reported incidents, marking improvements in both areas.

Traffic police actively cracked down on violations during this period, inspecting and handling 48,251 cases nationwide. They seized 482 cars, 17,214 motorbikes, and 656 other vehicles, suspended 1,515 driving licenses, and issued points to 9,685 licenses. Alcohol-related violations numbered 16,031, with other infractions including speeding, overloaded cargo, and drug-related offenses.

Looking Ahead, authorities continue to enforce traffic laws strictly in hopes of maintaining these positive trends. The reduction in accidents and fatalities during a historically hectic travel period may indicate the effectiveness of recent traffic safety measures, reported Vietnam News.
