A 32-year-old Vietnamese woman, Huynh Thi Ngoc Thuy, died after collapsing during a solo climb on Mount Ryozen in Japan's Shiga Prefecture. A rescue helicopter found her near the summit, lying motionless, on the morning of February 20. Despite transportation to a hospital, she was pronounced dead three hours later.

Thuy, a senior care worker in Yao City, Osaka, began her climb on February 19 at 1 p.m. Later that evening, around 10 p.m., she contacted police in distress, unable to descend the mountain. Police and firefighters initiated a search operation immediately after her call for help.

Although Thuy carried mountaineering equipment, her clothing was insufficient for the harsh, freezing conditions on Mount Ryozen. Overnight temperatures on the nearly 1,100-meter mountain drop below zero, with snow often covering the area in winter. Authorities noted no visible injuries, but exposure to cold is suspected as a factor in her death.

Japanese authorities are conducting further investigations to understand the circumstances leading to her tragic death. The incident highlights risks associated with solo climbing, especially under severe weather conditions. The case underscores the importance of adequate preparation and equipment for such perilous endeavors, reported VN Express.
