Hanoi's urban railway lines carried over 243,000 passengers during the Tet festival, marking an increase of more than 32% compared to the previous year. This surge took place from February 14 over a nine-day period, with the metro maintaining full safety and timeliness. The Cat Linh–Ha Dong Line 2A and the Nhon–Hanoi Railway Station Line 3.1 operated 3,333 train services without delays.

This rise in ridership highlights the growing reliance on public transportation during significant festivals. The Tet festival is a key feature of Vietnamese culture, and increased travel demand is often expected. The previous year's figures show that Hanoi Metro is becoming a staple in urban transit, due to its efficiency and punctuality during high-demand times.

Experts note that the performance of Hanoi Metro during Tet demonstrates the system's capacity to handle increased passenger numbers while maintaining service quality. The two lines returned to regular operations on February 23, with trains running from 5:30 am to 10:00 pm. Peak times see train frequencies at six-minute intervals on weekdays, while off-peak and evening services run every 10 to 15 minutes.

The success during Tet has led to discussions regarding the expansion and enhancement of urban rail services in Hanoi to accommodate future growth in ridership. As the city continues to modernize, public transportation will be central to its urban planning strategies.

Looking ahead, regular services are in place, with trains operating consistently throughout the week. The schedule includes six-minute frequencies during morning and evening rush hours and longer intervals during other times. Future developments may focus on increasing capacity and improving service for upcoming festivals and daily commutes, reported VN Express.

Key Takeaways

  • Hanoi Metro saw a 32% rise in passengers during Tet 2025.
