Phu Quoc International Airport in southern Vietnam experienced a significant surge in traffic during the Tet holidays from February 14-22, 2025. The airport handled 767 flights and catered to 260,473 passengers, marking the highest growth for the Tet period since its inception in 2012. This represents a 46% increase in flight activity and a 37% rise in passenger numbers compared to the previous year.

The increase in flight operations included 371 domestic and 396 international services. In response to the escalating demand, Airport Director Nguyen Ba Quan implemented flexible operating plans to ensure smooth passenger flow. Additional staffing at key points and real-time adjustments were made to maintain efficiency during peak times.

Despite the uptick in flight and passenger operations, the airport maintained seamless operations by collaborating with aviation authorities and other related services. Efforts included enhanced communication protocols to manage potential issues and maintain security standards without causing bottlenecks.

Technological enhancements played a crucial role in managing the high traffic. Full-terminal Wi-Fi, improved 4G/5G connectivity, and upgraded flight information systems were part of the strategy. Additionally, auto non-stop toll collection systems were introduced to address vehicular congestion.

The Tet holiday period also saw Phu Quoc welcoming 366,000 tourists, including 92,000 international visitors, marking a 30% and 24% increase respectively from the previous year. These developments signify Phu Quoc's growing importance as a travel hub and a tourist destination, reported VN Express.
