An explosion occurred at Tra Vinh General Hospital's Orthopedics and Trauma Department in Vinh Long Province when a cake box left by an unidentified visitor detonated, injuring one person. The incident happened on February 27, and police are actively investigating the blast, which involved improvised explosive materials. The explosion caused minor injuries to a patient's mother and damaged nearby items.

The box was brought to Room E609 by a man whose identity has not been determined. Upon meeting a 24-year-old male patient, the man left the cake box under the bed and exited the hospital. Shortly after, the patient's mother opened the box, triggering the blast that injured her hands and legs.

In response to the explosion, medical staff and relatives swiftly used fire extinguishers to control the resulting flames. The aftermath included damage to furniture and bedding, and an initial inspection revealed components like a charred water pipe casing, electronic parts, and copper wire among the remains. Hospital authorities took immediate action to relocate patients from the affected area to ensure continued safety.

Authorities are considering potential motives and piecing together the device's origin, while relatives and hospital staff are on high alert. Local residents have expressed concerns about such incidents occurring in medical facilities meant to provide care and safety. The police have not released any further information about potential suspects or arrests at this time.

Moving forward, the investigation will focus on identifying the unknown visitor and understanding the circumstances leading to this dangerous act. Enhanced security measures may be implemented at the hospital to prevent similar incidents, ensuring the safety of patients, staff, and visitors, reported VN Express.
